Why I hate sport (but I believe women need more coverage in sport)

I have no interest in sport. I know that's terribly sexist for me to say but quite frankly my dear... I don't give a damn. That's not to say that I don't respect it or understand it's need in society or the good that it does for those who partake in it – both psychically and mentally. I get it. I do and I think it's a good thing and one that I will encourage my kids to take up (if I ever decide whether to have kids but that's another story.) I just don't partake in it... voluntarily.

Hilary Mantel v Kate Middleton - Why I'm on Mantel's side

Award winning novelist, Hilary Mantel came under heavy fire recently, after she publicly voiced her opinion of Kate Middleton A.K.A The Duchess of Cambridge. Unsurprisingly, the speech as met with instant outrage from both citizens and the media, with the Daily Mail publicly labelling Mantel's speech a “venomous attack” against the Duchess.

Why I don't mind overtly sexy female game characters

So a friend of mine recently accused me of being less of a feminist than he was (the fact that he has a penis means nothing in this context.) The accusation came after we exchanged examples of illustration styles that we liked. His tastes are very different from mine, which lean more towards artists such as, Hyung-Tae-Kim and Masamune Shirow. At the time I didn’t think much of it, however it slowly formed in my mind. I consider myself to be a feminist. Not the Germaine Greer “burning bra” type, but a modern 21st century “equality for women, men and LGBT” type. However, how could I call myself a modern feminist if I subconsciously enjoy imagery of unrealistic and overly sexualised women?

Sexism in videogames

This is something that (despite being prominent) always catches me off guard. Simply because I never really notice it, well it’s either that or I’ve become completely desensitized to it that I just shrug it off now. Either way, sexism is prevalent in the gaming industry. An industry that sadly is still being dominated by men. However things are changing on the consumer front and have been for a while now. Not only are more women getting into gaming (according to the Metro a reassuring 47% of UK gamers are female but the industry is starting to wake up and notice too.

Things you always forget to pack when travelling

Picking where you want to holiday and getting ready to go away is always exciting and if you’re anything like me then it normally requires a fun-filled shopping session beforehand in which you always end up buying a new bikini or two, as well as some other exciting purchases. However there are some less exciting but equally important things that you need to remember to pack or they’ll probably cost you quite a lot to replace when you’re away! So what are they and why is it such a pain when you forget them? Well everybody’s list if different but below is a list of things that I find crucial to take when going abroad…

Marrakesh and Mint Tea: A review of Morocco

I must confess that when my boyfriend suggested a holiday to Morocco (Marrakesh)I was not overly keen on the idea. Mainly because most Moroccan's insist on putting fruit in almost everything they cook and I hate cooked fruit - particularly dry and preserved fruit. So naturally I assumed I was going to starve or end up eating couscous or bananas for the entire holiday. However, I eventually realised that I was probably being a bit dramatic. So I swallowed my apprehension and sat down with Rob to book it.

Mac Pro Long Concealer Review

So I saw a girl on YouTube use this for an acne covering make-up tutorial. I was so impressed by the flawless end result that I decided to try it for myself. The concealer itself comes in a tiny 9 ml bottle, which I know doesn't sound a lot - especially for the price - but it's worth every penny. It's a pump dispenser so I suggest only pumping once every time (onto your hand) before applying with either fingers or a brush. This concealer is thick, the finish is natural matte and the coverage is pretty opaque.

Apply make-up on your commute – allowable or not ?

I couldn't help but notice that this debate is the hot topic du jour at the moment. How this debate has resurfaced is not a discussion that particularly interests me; however what does fascinate me is the debate itself.

Fictional Women, or Why These Female Characters are Awesome

As in life, it is hard to be a woman in literature; often it feels like a man's world, from subject matter to the way authors are named. So, in the spirit of female celebration (Feminism) this post is dedicated to some of my favourite female characters in literature. They are not always strong, powerful women - some are constricted by the patriarchy or do not crave the same sort of freedom, but they all fascinating.
